Five Steps to Great Health

Our health is something we often take for granted, until we lose it. Unfortunately, once it is gone it takes time for health to return. The best way to maintain health is by following some simple guidelines that are easy to follow on a daily basis. Here are five steps you can take to maintain great health.

1. Drink 2 litres of water per day.

Often we confuse thirst for hunger, leading to health complications such weight problems and dehydration. The body is made up of 70% water and needs to constantly replenish what is lost through perspiration, exhalation and excretion. To make sure you have enough water for good health drink at least 2 litres per day. The water should be pure, no additions like tea or cordial, and preferably filtered or rainwater. Try to sip regularly and count the glasses you consume to keep track. You will notice health benefits like better digestion and clearer skin.

2. Get 20 minutes of aerobic exercise every day.

Your entire health existence relies on your heart pumping blood around the body. Yet we don’t consciously think to exercise this important organ. Your health is dependant on the blood and oxygen pumped to cells by the heart. By increasing the heart rate for 20 minutes every day, you are feeding your cells vital and health giving oxygen and helping remove toxins. If you are serious about your health you will be getting aerobic exercise every day.

3. Work on yourself and your minds health

Don’t neglect your mental health. If you are not happy with where you are in your life and were you are headed do something about it. List your goals and work toward them. You should indulge in your favourite hobby or pastime on a regular basis. Try meditation to reduce stress and take time out to spend time with yourself. Health is holistic, mind and body.

4. Eat a good variety of fruit and vegetables

What you put into your mouth determines your health to a great extent. You should aim to eat many servings of fruits and vegetables every day. The nutrition is essential to your health. If you compare your body to a race car, you need the best fuel possible. Your health will improve as well as your complexion and general wellbeing.

5. Find 10 minutes a day for Stretching

If you want to be quick, nimble and fast to action, what animal might you compare yourself to? When we consider this aspect of health, we might think of a cat. Watch how often a cat stretches. You will benefit in the same way. There are many different ways you can incorporate stretching into your health regime. You could try yoga or pilates or even those simple stretches we were taught to do before jogging. Stretching helps your health by lengthening your muscles and moving lymph around your body. Lymph helps to carry away toxins from your cells, improving health on a cellular level.

10 Basic Fitness Tips

Tip no.1- Move it or lose it (the no-brainer). Do at least 30 minutes of exercise daily. I'm not talking about a walk in the park, although you can do that on the side. I mean 30 minutes or if you feel that you’re up to it, why not make it 60 minutes instead of pushing your body beyond what it's used to. You might be thinking that you are going to put yourself through some really agonizing workouts, in fact not. Basic fitness tips can be found almost anywhere, you can look it up on the internet, read it from health and fitness magazines and you can also get them from your fitness trainer.

Tip no.2- Stop putting up with stuff that's holding you back from being healthy, fit, and energized. Stop putting up with things which are holding you back from being a healthy active person. Stop complaining and start doing something progressive with your life. Do these same basic fitness tips in your workplace. There should be no excuse for you to be healthy and fit.
